Space Design, Multi-Function - Townhome, Markham
This client's 2200 square foot home was lacking a den and they needed an oversized work space that could accommodate the family of four. There were no extra rooms in the house and finishing the basement wasn't an option. The solution? They had an attached living and dining area, but both areas were too small to be used for their respective purposes. We decided that we would combine both rooms and redesign the one large space to provide maximum functionality. By adding sleek floating cabinets extending the length of the wall across both original rooms, we turned it into one multi-functional space that would serve as a workspace, home office and a dining room large enough for entertaining. The floating cabinets provide tons of storage for stationary and unsightly office equipment, yet gives the look of a sleek dining buffet.
Opting for a modern look, we selected furniture with a commercial feel, adding two industrial overhead lights for extra lighting and a docking station for laptops where they could also be neatly tucked away and out-of-sight when necessary. The end result was one look to suit dual purposes - a fresh, modern home office by day and a modern bistro-feel dining area by night.
